first impression tips real relationships real friends

Although cliché, you really do have only one opportunity to make a positive first impression. Studies suggest a first impression is formed in the first few seconds when meeting someone for the first time.

First Impression Tips is about establishing real relationships and making real friends.

The Triple-A First Impression formula is how I remember 3-important techniques when meeting someone for the first time. They have been helpful in establishing successful business relationships as well as life-long friendships.

Although cliché, you really do have only one opportunity to make a positive first impression. Studies suggest a first impression is formed in the first few seconds when meeting someone for the first time.

Why Triple-A First Impression Formula

Why is the Triple-A First Impression Tips formula beneficial?

Because it is not fluff. It focuses on what is important in establishing a relationship. It scrubs the hype and targets the essentials.

Plus, it emphasizes making a positive first impression is not only about you.

The person you are meeting for the very first time ought to also be striving to make a memorable first impression.

In other words, you should see your new acquaintance following a similar approach.

First impression tips you are in-charge.

You Are In Charge

You are in charge is not some trite saying to grab your attention.

The Triple-A formula, on its own, will not make new friends for you. Nor will it make anyone like you, want to spend more time with you, or even want to be around you.

The formula is words on a page. Words you’ll read, digest, muddle around in your mind. They are simply words.

You are in charge because now that you know these tips on how to make a positive first impression, you can decide whether to put them to work.

Being in charge comes with responsibility. What responsibility? You!

You and only you is in charge of you.

So, what will it be?

Words on a page?

Or a chance for what you are looking for?

Triple-A First Impression Tips Formula

The Triple-A First Impression Tips formula is not a linear formula. Specifically, there is no step 1, then step 2, and next step 3, etcetera.

Relationships, social, business, or family are dynamic. More importantly, they are spontaneous.

They are not a production. There is no script telling you to laugh, smile, or look away.

Real relationships are not choreographed. Life is much more exciting than that.

Scientific Proof Best Practices

What there is, however, is scientific proof on best practices. Although best practices were researched and developed as a business interaction strategy, especially for sales professionals, they can be adapted to social interaction.

In other words, there are specific behaviors and techniques one can learn that will help in creating positive first impressions.

The Triple-A First Impression Tips formula that maps these out for personal and social interaction is:

A – Appearance

A – Approachable

A – Attentive

First Impressions Door Swings Both Ways

The positive first impression door swings both ways.

As you put the Triple-A First Impression Tips formula to work for you, what you should see in the person or people you are meeting for the first time is similar behavior.

They, like you, should want to make a positive first impression.

By-the-way, when someone says “I don’t care what others think. This is me.” That often is a signal of apathy or laziness.

Not caring what other people think of you means you will only likely ever make friends with people who also don’t care what other people think of them. This is an attitude of selfishness. Possibly a reflection of lacking confidence.

This ‘not caring’ behavior is likely not healthy for you and the people around you; if there even is people around you.

If that is how you feel, I encourage you to chat with someone you trust and who will give you honest feedback.

A – Appearance

First impression tips dress for success.

Appearance. Appearance. Appearance. Appearance sets the stage.

There is a definite process people go through when meeting someone for the first time.

First, it is visual markers. Before you even speak, the other person or people look you over.

This might sound harsh, but the same way a person might look over a plate of food in a restaurant, that is how you are looked at in that first meeting.

For example, on your plate of food you look at some green runny stuff. You have never seen it before. It sounded interesting on the menu. But now you are not so sure. Even before you taste it, you have this sense you are not going to like it.

Or, green runny stuff might be exactly what you like to see. So again, even before tasting it, you have a sense you are going to like it just because of how it looks.

That is very much how it happens when someone meets you for the first time. Based on how you are dressed, how you are sitting or standing, jewelry, make-up, shirt buttoned or unbuttoned, hair combed or not combed, these are all visual markers that the person or people you are meeting for the first time will use to create a first impression of you before you even speak.

In business, the saying is “Dress for success.” In personal and social relationships, how you are dressed sends a message about you.

A – Approachable

Are you approachable?

Visual markers here include your smile, eye contact, and body language.

In the first couple of seconds the person or people you are meeting for the first time have an impression of you through their visual filter. Now the “Are you approachable” filter starts interacting with the appearance filter.

Are you making eye contact with the person or people you are meeting? Eye contact suggests confidence.

Is there a smile? A smile and good eye contact suggest a welcoming confidence.

Are your arms folded, fists clenched, or are they relaxed?

Your body language is another strong visual cue.

Up to this point, only a few seconds have passed and the person or people you are meeting for the first time have formed an impression of you.

A – Attentive

Are you attentive?

In some social settings, when meeting someone for the first time there is a handshake. Whatever is the norm for your social environment, are you aware of it?

If, for example, it is a handshake, do you know which hand to shake with? Do you have a firm, not hard, but firm handshake or does the other person feel like they are shaking hands with a dead fish?

Do you listen for the other person’s name? Can you repeat it back? And, more importantly, can you pronounce the name correctly?

Being attentive means more than listening with your ears. You also listen with your eyes. When someone is speaking, do you look at them?

There are many ways to show you are being attentive. For example, you might lean in when someone is speaking. You might nod your head or gesture to show you are listening.

Summary Triple-A First Impression Tips Formula

When meeting someone for the first time, that person will absolutely be going through a quick psychological process in forming a first impression of you.

Similarly, you too will be forming a first impression of the person or people you are meeting.

First impressions start with visual cues. They include appearance and body language.

You are in-charge of the impression you want to make. And, based on the impression you want to make, that will generally reflect the calibre of friends and type of relationship you make.

The Triple-A Formula can guide you in making real relationships and real friends.
